Cristiano Ronaldo Nears 1,000 Career Goals with Stunning 15-Minute Hat-Trick
Cristiano Ronaldo came a step closer to one of soccer’s most famous milestones when he scored a hat-trick in 15 minutes to inspire Al-Nassr to a dramatic 5-3 victory over Al-Kholood in the Saudi Pro League.
The Portuguese superstar’s official career goal record now stands at 985 with the 1,000 goal mark just 15 goals away.
Ronaldo takes charge in second half
It was not easy for Al-Nassr to play the game. The first half was an interesting one, with both teams finding the back of the net, and Al-Kholood showing they could challenge the hosts.
But after the break it was a determined Ronaldo who turned the battle around in their favor with three goals in a spectacular span.
João Félix laid on a pass into the penalty area and Ronaldo had a simple finish from close range to open the scoring in the 66th.
Six minutes later the Portuguese teammates combined again. Félix fired a ball into the area and Ronaldo headed it into the net for his second of the nite.
Ronaldo completed his hat-trick in the 81st minute, rounding off a move with Sadio Mané after a spectacular individual showing.
João Félix: Essential in Al-Nassr’s victory
Although Ronaldo hogged the attention, João Félix also had a great game. The attacker registered four assists, keeping Al-Nassr’s danger alive for the entire contest.
Félix and Ronaldo had a fruitful partnership, especially in the second half, as their understanding created two of the veteran forward’s three goals.
The thrilling encounter offered eight goals and three vital points for the Saudi Arabian side as Al-Nassr eventually ran out 5-3 winners.
Only 15 goals away from history
Ronaldo’s stunning hat-trick has only heightened the focus on his chase for 1,000 career goals in official competition. At 41, he has 985 to his name and is within touching distance of a milestone few players have come close to reaching.
His continuous scoring form suggests he is determined to stay productive at the highest level even at this stage of his career.
It would be another amazing milestone for a player who has played for Sporting CP, Manchester United, Real Madrid, Juventus and Al-Nassr, as well as representing Portugal, to reach 1,000 goals.
There is still work to do but Ronaldo’s latest performance has pushed the goal nearer. Football fans will be looking to see how quickly he can get the other 15 goals.
