Man City Women’s winless UWCL run continues as they lose late lead to PSG

Manchester City Women were left unhappy as Paris Saint-Germain struck late to earn a 1-1 draw at the Joie Stadium and extend City’s winless start to the 2026/27 UEFA Women’s Champions League campaign.

City appeared on course for their first win of the competition this season when Khadija “Bunny” Shaw converted a penalty in the 85th minute. But PSG replied almost instantly with replacement Tara Elimbi Gilbert scoring in the 88th minute to salvage a draw for the visitors.

The result means Manchester City have now registered three successive draws in the league round, having also shared the points with Bayern Munich and Real Madrid in their first fixtures.

Bunny Shaw ends the deadlock in the last minutes

Manchester City controlled large parts of the game and generated a number of chances, especially after half-time, but they could not break through a disciplined PSG back line.

City piled on the pressure in the second half, with Lauren Hemp among the players to challenge the visitors while Shaw went close on many times.

The pivotal moment appeared to come five minutes from the end of normal time. Shaw earned a penalty when he was fouled inside the box and easily converted from the spot in the 85th minute.

There were home fans expecting City to see out the remaining minutes but the late goal gave optimism of a much-needed European success.

But the advantage was not of long duration.

PSG Responds With Late Equalizer

PSG refused to roll over and got a reply through Elimbi Gilbert, who had come on as a replacement.

The forward got in behind the City defense, and struck from close range to send the ball past goalkeeper Ayaka Yamashita to level in the 88th minute.

It was a big blow for the hosts who had battled hard to get the initial goal and looked to have done enough to win the game.

City tried to push on again in the closing minutes but neither side could get a second before the final whistle.

The 1-1 outcome meant both teams shared the spoils, although City were perhaps the more downhearted after coming so close to their first win of the campaign.

Manchester City Still Looking for Their First UWCL Win

It is a third successive draw in the competition for Manchester City. They are unblemished but three successive draws have held back their progress in the league-phase standings.

City had already dropped points to Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, so the PSG game was a key opportunity to turn their performances into a win.

Instead, the late equalizer means they have to keep chasing three points as the tournament goes on.

The squad played with attacking intent and pressed throughout the match but their failure to hold on to a late lead will be a big source of frustration.

With a handful of league-phase matchups still to play, City have the chance to improve their position. Still, translating such encouraging displays into wins will be vital if they are to boost their prospects of reaching the knockout stages.

What’s next for Manchester City women?

Now it is back to domestic matters for Manchester City before they resume their European campaign.

They are back in Women’s Champions League action on November 10, 2026 when they travel to play Inter Milan. City will be aiming to respond and pick up the win that has so far been missing from their European campaign this season.

The late equalizer is a good result for PSG away from home and maintains them in the race in the league phase.
